Haverhill was settled in 1640 under the name Pentucket and later renamed for Haverhill, England. It became a city in 1870 and grew into a major shoe-making center, earning the nickname “Queen Slipper City.” The Merrimack runs through the middle of town, with downtown on the north bank and Bradford, a separate town until 1897, on the south. To the east, Winnekenni Park covers hundreds of acres around Kenoza Lake and Lake Saltonstall, with Winnekenni Castle on the hill above.
Haverhill’s homes reflect its long working history. Downtown, many former shoe factories have been turned into loft apartments and condos. Next to downtown, the Highlands holds a district of large Victorian houses. Bradford mixes single-family homes with multi-family houses, and outer areas like Ward Hill, Rocks Village and the neighborhoods around Kenoza Lake have a quieter, more spread-out feel.
Lofts usually need steady attention to floors, windows and open kitchens. A Victorian house has a lot of trim, tall rooms and staircases, and those take time to do well. A family home in Bradford may just need a reliable rhythm so weekends stay free. Samira listens first and then suggests what makes sense.
Interstate 495 runs through the city with five exits, which is the road Samira follows from Lowell. Routes 97, 108, 110, 113 and 125 fan out from there to the different neighborhoods. Samira works across downtown, the Washington Street area, Lafayette Square, the Highlands, Mount Washington and Riverside on the north side, and in Bradford and Ward Hill across the river. Haverhill also borders Salem, NH, and Samira serves there as well.
