North Andover was the north parish of old Andover until April 1855, when it became its own town. Its roots show in the Old Center, where the North Parish Church, built in 1836, faces the town green, and where some of the oldest houses in the region still stand. The Bridges House and several other first-period homes date from before 1720. Lake Cochichewick fills the northeast part of town, ringed by the Osgood Hill and Weir Hill reservations, and Merrimack College sits along Route 114. The Merrimack and Shawsheen rivers form part of the northwest border.
Antique houses, mill lofts and newer streets
Housing in North Andover covers a long span of time. Around the Old Center, colonial-era homes sit on old roads near the Green. Machine Shop Village, a mid-1800s mill village on the National Register, still has its worker housing and the brick buildings of the Davis and Furber machine shop. The old main mill, now called East Mill, holds offices, studios and apartments. Away from these historic areas, much of town is quieter, with homes on larger lots and condos along the main roads.
Each type of home needs a different kind of care. Antique floors and windows ask for a light touch. Mill apartments have tall ceilings and big windows where dust collects high up. Bigger family homes simply have more of everything: more bathrooms, more floors, more stairs. Samira asks a few questions first so the visit fits your house, not a generic checklist.
Getting to North Andover
Interstate 495 crosses the western part of town along the Lawrence border, which puts North Andover right on Samira’s way from Lowell. Route 114, the old Salem Turnpike, runs through town toward Middleton. Routes 125 and 133 share much of their path here and link the center with Andover and Haverhill. Samira cleans across North Andover, from downtown and Machine Shop Village to the Old Center, the neighborhoods near Stevens Pond and the roads around Lake Cochichewick.
