Hudson, up close
Hudson sits on the east bank of the Merrimack River, directly across from Nashua, in southern New Hampshire. It began as part of the old Dunstable land grant, was later known as Nottingham West, and took the name Hudson in 1830. The town grew up with two centers: Hudson Village by the river, where the Town Hall and the town common are, and Hudson Center, around a five-way intersection near the middle of town. Today it is mostly a residential town whose people commute to Nashua, Lowell and Greater Boston.
Much of Hudson is single-family houses on suburban streets, many of them capes, ranches and colonials. Near the village and along Lowell Road you also find older homes, including some from the early 1900s, as well as condo and townhouse developments such as the ones near Robinson Pond.
These homes ask for different things. A family colonial with kids and pets needs steady upkeep more than anything. A condo at the end of an ownership needs an empty-room clean that a buyer will notice. An older house near the river, with its woodwork and tight corners, benefits from a slower, more detailed visit. Samira will ask how your home lives before she sets a price.
Lowell Road, which is New Hampshire Route 3A, is the main north-south road and the town’s busiest commercial strip. It continues south across the state line into Tyngsborough, which is how Samira comes up from Lowell. Route 111 crosses the Merrimack from Nashua and carries traffic through the middle of town toward Windham, while Route 102 runs east on Derry Road.
Samira works throughout: the streets near Benson Park, the old animal farm that is now a town park, the neighborhoods around Robinson Pond in the north, the area near Alvirne High School, and the quieter roads by Musquash Pond in the south.
